University District Houses For Sale

The University District is located in Kelowna’s north end near the University of British Columbia Okanagan campus. Thousands of students attend UBCO each year with many opportunities for homeowners to rent a room or basement to students looking for a place to stay. Quail Ridge provides many entry-level homes with many 1990s style homes and newer million dollar estates with fantastic views of the grass-filled valley. The newly built Academy Hill on the south side of the university provides many condos for purchase and rent with a young student demographic during the school year. On the west side of the university on Curtis and Valley Road are large and small homes with multi-acre properties near Robert Lake.

While the University District situates close to the university, the Okanagan Golf Club is integrated into the Quail Ridge neighbourhood with three more golf courses in the nearby area. Quail Ridge also provides easy hiking trails and a new shopping centre for immediate shopping needs without driving into the Kelowna city centre.

University District Amenities

Integrated into the Quails Ridge neighbourhood is The Okanagan Golf Club with 18-holes of high quality golf. Only a short drive beside the airport is the smaller Shadow Ridge Golf Club with two more clubs, Sunset Ranch Golf & Country Club and Kelowna Springs Golf Club, only a short distance away in the Ellison area. Hikers will enjoy Quail Place Park with easy trails that wind through the undisturbed pine forest into Quail Ridge Linear Park with great views of the Glenmore Valley. There is also Carney Park with an open field and jungle gym for kids.

Across the highway from the airport is the nearly built Airport Business Park with a Nesters Market, Tim Horton’s, Dairy Queen, DunnEnzies, Kaya Sushi + Grill, and other shops and businesses for shopping outside the city centre. University District is just south of Windfield where locals can visit the seasonal Kangaroo Creek Farm to carefully pet the Kangaroos and visit the pigs, goats, parrots, emus, peacocks, and more.

University District Schools

The main attraction to the University District is its close proximity to Kelowna’s University of British Columbia Okanagan campus. UBCO welcomes over 9,000 students from around the world to study their many four-year degree and masters programs in the arts, sciences, engineering, medicine, nursing, and many more.

Also in the University District is the Pursuit of Excellence Hockey Academy that have helped train big name hockey players like Jarome Iginla, Dany Heatley, and Hayley Wickenheiser to name a few. They provide on and off-ice training camps as well as classroom classes that have also helped teach the kids of former NHL players Joe Sakic and Scott Niedermayer.

Kids living in the University District will go to Ellison Elementary. Built in 1996, Ellison Elementary has numerous support teachers, a counsellor, speech pathologist, and aboriginal advocate for all your child’s needs. Older kids will attend Rutland Middle on Rutland Road with its rich history reaching back to its opening in 1949 where kids will join with others from across the Ellison and Rutland area with more opportunities for friendships and learning experiences.

On the same block, teenagers will attend Rutland Senior Secondary, the only Kelowna Secondary school that ranges from grades 9-12. RSS welcomes over 1,500 students from across Kelowna’s diverse east side with school and public transit allowing kids outside the area to arrive on time each day. RSS also includes a partnership with BCIT with duel credit programs and an Advanced Placement program for students wanting a lead in their postsecondary education.
